McFarland Companions to 19th Century Literature

McFarland Companions to 19th Century Literature is a reference series devoted to the work of British, American, and Continental authors of the long 19th century.  Prepared by scholars but with students, instructors, and lay readers in mind, each volume includes a brief biography, an introduction to the writer and the oeuvre, detailed entries on the writings, people, places, events, and issues that readers need to know, and a selected bibliography of recent criticism.

Ronald D. Morrison is a professor of English at Morehead State University in Kentucky. A co-editor of three books on ecocritical approaches to Victorian literature and culture, he is the author of Thomas Hardy: A Companion to the Novels in the McFarland 19th-Century Companions series. He has published essays on Hardy, Dickens, Jefferies, and other British writers from the 19th century.
