McFarland Companions to 19th Century Literature

McFarland Companions to 19th Century Literature is a reference series devoted to the work of British, American, and Continental authors of the long 19th century.  Prepared by scholars but with students, instructors, and lay readers in mind, each volume includes a brief biography, an introduction to the writer and the oeuvre, detailed entries on the writings, people, places, events, and issues that readers need to know, and a selected bibliography of recent criticism.
