About the Book

This textbook proposes an innovative approach to support student learning of Spanish as a second language through ten plays (all presented in Spanish) from Spain and Latin America. It offers learners direct interaction with the target language through realistic discourse from plays which also present current topics that facilitate engaging class conversations. Each chapter provides an introduction to the play and author, pre-reading activities, acting exercises, reading comprehension and literary analysis questions, writing prompts, and topics for reflection on culture. Additional role-playing, improvisation, scriptwriting, non-verbal games, and poster design exercises help to position the learner in diverse forms of social interactions that activate cognitive, affective, and kinesthetic domains while fostering initiative, independence, creativity, collaboration, and active listening.
