About the Book

Tom Weaver’s classic fifth volume of interviews is now back in print. Originally published as It Came from Weaver Five in 1996, this collection goes behind the scenes with 20 of the most talkative people of Hollywood’s horror, science fiction and serial films of the 1930s through 1960s.
Delores Fuller loaned Ed Wood her angora sweater, but didn’t fully realize he was a transvestite until Glen or Glenda was released. Tom Hennesy played the title role in Clint Eastwood’s first movie—Revenge of the Creature. The interviewees include Fuller, Hennesy, Junior Coghlan, Charlotte Austin, Les Baxter, John Clifford, Mara Corday, Kathleen Crowley, Michael Fox, Anne Gwynne, Linda Harrison, Michael Pate, Gil Perkins, Walter Reed, Joseph F. Robertson, Aubrey Schenck, Sam Sherman, Gloria Stuart, Gregory Walcott and Robert Wise. Also included is “A Salute to Ed Wood,” with illustrations by Drew Friedman.

Book Reviews & Awards

Classic Images Book of the Month
“one of the leading scholars in the horror field”—New York Times; “the king of the monster hunters”—USA Today; “one of our foremost fantasy film historians”— Sight & Sound; “CLASSIC material. Tom Weaver has an interviewing style that is unparalleled. He makes his subjects come alive, and his knowledge is so immense that nothing gets past him. There are very few consistently excellent and reliable film writers out there like Tom Weaver…what a great book”—Classic Images; “great fun”—Big Reel; “Tom Weaver has enjoyed a lengthy career writing about the horror genre through his reference guides and countless magazine contributions. His interviews are thorough and informative but presented conversationally, as though he is simply visiting with an old friend. Weaver expertly guides the talk in a way that allows him to ask his questions in an informal manner, and likely he received a more detailed answer than if he had approached the subject as a journalist would”—horrortalk.com; “recommended”—Midnight Marquee; “worth its weight in gold”—Film Review; “the author has obviously done his homework…careful to ask intelligent questions”—American Cinematographer; “more of what Tom Weaver does best—find and interview (with gusto) people in front of and behind the camera from horror and sci fi flicks…another topnotch Weaver opus”—Little Shoppe of Horrors; “very thorough and well written”—Samhain.
